A survey will see if there is interest to have a scheduled passenger service between the Wiarton Keppel International Airport and Toronto.
Acting CAO and Director of Operations for Georgian Bluffs , Rick Winters, says it is an opportunity for the area to really connect to the rest of the world via Toronto.
Winters says he is constantly getting phone calls asking about a service to Toronto.
He says more people are working from home these days, and they have the internet capacity , but don't have the actually capability of getting to bigger cities.
It will also benefit those living in the GTA that have a cottage here, or are just coming up for the weekend.
Officials add, the flight would be around 30 minutes.
Right now, the Wiarton Keppel International Airport does not have a scheduled passenger service, only chartered planes.
He says it will help the area both economically and socially.
In order to convince private air carriers they should establish here, the muncipality needs to do a market survey and go to them with the data.
Winters says it is a 10 question survey that is open to everyone in the month of February.
The survey can be found on the Georgian Bluffs and Grey County website or at their offices.
Georgian College marketing students will also be at various events in the community with surveys.
In March, if the results are good they hope to start reaching out to carriers.
Winters says, in the past year the carries have said "If you can come to us with positive results, we will entertain setting up a service".
No other airport in Grey Bruce has scheduled passenger service to Toronto.
