The West Coast Bluesfest is not asking for a handout from Goderich Council.
That's according to the event's committee president, John Harrison who calls a $5,000 municipal grant request a loan that will be repaid.
Harrison says the "downtown shuffle" on the Friday night of Bluesfest at the end of each summer has translated into added business for participating merchants on The Square.
He points out that the grant would help launch a second walkabout on the May 2-4 weekend, with a country music theme.
Harrison tells Country 104.9 News that the Bluesfest committee recognizes the fiscal challenges faced by Council, and that the event has not lost money in its 13-year run.
With that in mind, he's asking the Town to be an investor in the continued success of Bluesfest.
Money raised by the event is returned to the community by supporting the Alexandra Marine and General Hopsital, the Y, GDCI and the Goderich Flyers Junior C Hockey Club.
The Bluesfest grant request will be reviewed at Council's next budget session on February 28th.
