Budget Time, Groups Seek Capital Cash

Kincardine | by John Divinski

Four delegations are seeking money from the Municipality for various projects.

You can tell it's budget time at Kincardine Council.
No less than four different delegations appeared before Kincardine's Committee of the Whole on January 10th (2018), asking for just over one-million-dollars in new capital costs.
Marilyn Clarke, from the Kincardine Arts Committee, told councillors a leaky roof at the Kincardine Centre for the Arts is getting worse and needs to be repaired.
Clarke says at a recent Kincardine Theatre Guild rehearsal, on a particularly rainy night, cast could hear water leaking into the facility near the stage area.
The cost for the roof and other Phase 3 repairs comes in at an estimated $465,000.
Stuart Killin from the Kincardine minor soccer program was looking for an estimated $230,000 to bring permanent washrooms, canteen and utility
shed complex at the Bruce Avenue fields at Legion Park.
Killin points out close to 600 children and adults use the soccer pitches at the park and it's the last major area with no facilities for soccer or minor baseball.
The Inverhuron Community Pavilion Committee is looking for an estimated $325,000 to build a facility that would house a picnic area, washrooms and perhaps a kitchen.
Spokesperson Bill Stewart says the facility would be built at the corner of Bruce County Road 15 and Albert Road in Inverhuron.
A Stonehaven Park Development Committee also asked council for over $42,000 to create a playground facility for their neighbourhood.
In most cases, the groups have done some public fundraising of their own to help defray costs to the municipality.
As expected council referred all matters to budget discussions which are being held on Wednesday, January 17th at 5pm.
As it stands right now, without the four requests on January 10th included, the required tax rate increase would be 3.1% higher than last year.
