Huron-Perth Hospitals At 117% Capacity

Huron-Perth | by Peter Jackson

Hospital officials in Clinton, Seaforth, St. Marys, Stratford over capacity for inpatient care.

Patients are being asked to wait longer for elective surgeries at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance hospitals in Clinton, Seaforth, St. Marys and Stratford because they're beyond full.

HPHA President and CEO Andrew Williams tells us that acute care beds across the four hospital system are at 117 per-cent of capacity, and staff are scrambling to meet inpatient needs.

He calls the current level of activity unprecedented, but stresses that anyone needing urgent care for injuries and cardiovascular issues will not be turned away from emergency rooms.

Williams says officials are trying to limit added pressures on the system, and focusing on the needs of current patients.

If you don't have to go to the ER, he suggests calling Telehealth Ontario or contacting your family doctor until the current situation passes.
