The pre-Christmas nordic racing season concluded with three races this weekend at Black Jack Ski Club in Rossland, B.C. at the Haywood NorAm Mini Tour.
On Friday December 15th Julian Smith raced a 10 km classic and placed 18th in the senior men's category in a time of 0:31:50.9 and was the 6th U23.
The sprint races took place Saturday morning, starting with the qualifier for a 1.3 km skate race. Julian finished 21st in a time of 0:02:41.9 which qualified him of the quarter finals. In the quarter finals he placed second which qualified him for the semi finals. He won his semi final heat which put him in the A finals with 5 of the other top racers of the day. Julian raced fast and smart and finished third in a time of 0:02:38.53, 0.3 seconds behind the winner and 0.03 seconds in front of 4th place. It was a tight race and placed Julian on the podium for the second time this fall. He was also the top U23 for the day.
On Sunday he raced a 15 km skate pursuit. In the senior man category he placed 21st in a time of 0:42:12.45, and was 6th U 23.
