There is heavy damage to a 2 storey older building in downtown Port Elgin following an early morning blaze.

Flames broke out just before 8:30am on December 11th at a vacant home next to the Medical Arts Building on Goderich street.

Saugeen Shores Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says it's multi-use residential-commercial building and had been renovated a number of times which made it tough for firefighters to fight the fire.

No one was injured and the cause is under investigation, but Eagleson says it is not considered suspicious.

No damage estimate has been given.
