Hanover is kicking of the Christmas season with a number of festivities today and this evening. (Dec 2nd)
The fun begins this afternoon with Santa in the Square from 3 until 5 pm.
Families can drop by Heritage Square, meet Santa, pose for a photo, receive a goodie bag and enjoy a nice cup of hot chocolate.
This will be followed by the Carol of the Bells at Heritage Square at 6 pm.
Local churches will begin to chime their bells at 6 pm sharp as a choir sings Christmas songs.
The bells and yuletide carols will usher in the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the Square.
Mayor Sue Patterson will be on hand to throw the switch as Heritage Square is magically transformed into a spectacle of Christmas lights and cheer.
New this year is a special ten foot lighted snowman display courtesy of the students of JDSS high school.
Following the lighting ceremony is the Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade at 7 pm, this year’s theme is a “A Red and White Christmas”.
And if you still have any energy after all of this, grab your skates and head to the P&H Centre for a free skate from 9 until 10 pm.
Participants will be skating to Christmas tunes around a large Christmas tree in centre ice.
