Progress Being Made On Future Hotel In Goderich

Goderich | by Peter Jackson

Construction representative says second or third storey of building will be built by Christmas.

The developer of the Comfort Inn hotel on Gibbons Street in Goderich, and the site construction representative assures residents the project is moving forward.

Little had been done until recently on the former Victoria Public School site, where ground was broken in September.

Goderich Council has now authorized a completion date extension for the four-storey, 60-room complex to December 31st, 2018.

Site construction representative Rafal Eckert says the town will upgrade services to the site, and that part of the delay stemmed from the need to coordinate on the servicing plan.

The town's Chief Building Inspector Jason Dykstra points out that the developer has paid $70 thousand for an electrical transformer and pole relocation to serve the site.

Eckert mentions that residents will see progress by Christmas, when the wood construction should be half-way complete.

He stresses that much of the progress of construction depends on working with the town, and that -- in his words -- "nobody is sleeping in the office".
