Draft Budget Discussed in Shelburne

Shelburne | by Jill Young

Town council presented with 2018 draft budget that so far includes a 4% increase.

Shelburne Council was presented with the 2018 Draft Budget at Monday's night council meeting.

According to the early presentation, there will be a 4 per cent increase to the average home owners tax bill next year.

Mayor Ken Bennington hopes that number is actually lower but they won't know for sure until the budget is finalized.

Another key point, according to Bennington, is that there will be a reduction in the reserves for next year.

The mayor explained that part of the reserves that was expected to carry over from 2017 to 2018 will now need to be used to fix the watermain in front of Town Hall.

A public budget meeting is scheduled for November 27th where council will present it's plans for the 2018 budget.

Following that meeting, council will then vote to approve the budget on either December 4th or 18th.
