Plans For Old Strathcona School

Owen Sound | by Matt Hermiz

Developer looks to turn property into four storey, 40-unit apartment complex

The long vacant former Strathcona Senior Public School in Owen Sound will finally get put to use.

Barry Kruisselbrink, owner of Barry's Construction and Insulation Limited, confirms to Bayshore Broadcasting News there are plans in the works to re-develop the building at 1185 4th Avenue East into a four storey, 40-unit apartment complex.

Kruisselbrink says the project still needs to go before the city for zoning, once all details of the build are finalized.

After all approvals, Kruisselbrink says construction should begin sometime in 2018 and take about one year to complete.

Strathcona School closed permanently in June 2008.

Bluewater District School Board Communications Officer Jamie Pettit says the building was purchased by Barry's Construction in April 2009 for $631,750.

Kruisselbrink says the building will not be demolished, but fixed up to keep the history of it in the area.
