Bruce, Grey and Huron Counties are about to become "Coupon Country."
As part of the Economic Development and Innovation Initiative, with Bruce Power leading the way, a new website designed to promote local businesses across Bruce, Grey and Huron was unveiled on October 23rd.
Business Investment Specialist, Energy Sector for Bruce County, Stellina Williams says the free website allows local business owners to post coupons to draw people into their stores.
Williams says the concept is "Largely in recognition of the growth that's happening in the area," thanks to the Bruce Power refurbishment.
New suppliers and contractors, along with their employees are moving to the area and the website is to help businesses get out the word that everything a consumer needs can be purchased locally.
Representing Bruce County at the event at the Bruce Power Visitor Centre, Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says the website is like giving back to the small local business operators.
He says, "They hire all kinds of local people....they're always the first people we go to when we've got a project in the town....and they're always there to support it."
Smith says with new people arriving in the region to live and to shop because of the Bruce Power Life Extension Program, they want to make sure the local small business operators are along for the ride.
Williams says the businesses have to register on the website in order to post coupons and after that all coupons are verified to be legitimate.
She says there is that quality control check before any offer shows up on the website.
The website, which has had a soft opening for the past 6-months, can be found at couponcountry.ca
