Huron "Out Of The Cold" Shelter Returning

Huron County | by Fadi Didi

Program to be expanded to four months, with province covering 100% of costs.

The Huron Out of the Cold Program is back for a second year.

The emergency homeless shelter was set up last winter at Goderich's Lakeshore United Church.

Last year, six people reportedly used the shelter in the ten weeks it ran.

This year, county officials say Huron Out of the Cold will begin December 1st, and wrap up March 31st, 2018.

The Salvation Army will also operate the program this coming winter, although the partnership with Lakeshore United Church will remain.

Those staying in the shelter will be provided a light meal, overnight accommodations, and breakfast the following morning.

The the program is expected to run $10,500 per month, with the province funding a hundred per cent of the costs.
