BWXT to Open Local Office

Port Elgin | by Craig Power

The Cambridge based nuclear support company will be a part of Bruce Power's Life Extension Program.

Another company has opened up shop in Port Elgin to support Bruce Power and the nuclear giant's Life Extension Program.

Cambridge, Ontario based BWXT Canada has moved into the new Southgate Plaza at the south end of Port Elgin.

Company spokesperson Natalie Cutler says with Bruce Power being a very significant customer, it made sense to move closer to the site.

"Really, this is a demonstration of our commitment to supporting the life extension program and we couldn't be more pleased to be joining the Port Elgin community," says Cutler, Communications and Government Relations at BWXT Canada.

BWXT Canada provides services to inspect, repair and maintain the plant's critical nuclear components like steam generators, much of which BWXT manufactures.

Cutler says the new office will host approximately 15 people or so, employees who spend a lot of time at the Bruce Power site allowing them to reduce travel time and spend moire time with their families.

"In addition to that, we do expect to expand our presence in the community over time and so we do feel there will be opportunities for new positions out of that office as well," adds Cutler.
