Learning in the Heat

Regional | by Ken Hashizume

Schools in Simcoe-Muskoka are air conditioned but not enough to cool down under high heat.

Students in Simcoe County are feeling the heat and it has nothing to do with academics.

A number of elementary and secondary schools in the region don't have adequate air conditioning to deal with the high temperatures.

That is causing students in classrooms to feel exhausted and unable to study.

One student from Orillia Secondary School reportedly passed out while in class due to the hot weather.

A spokesman with the Simcoe County District School tells us all schools have at least partial air conditioning while a few of the alternative schools and maintenance/operations shops do not have A/C at all.

A spokeswoman with the Simcoe Muskoka District Catholic School Board says all their schools have air conditioning except one, Saint Mary Catholic School in Huntsville.
