Sarah Cowan wins Cubs For Cancer Jersey Design Contest
The Owen Sound Attack, in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society's Bluewater Office, is pleased to announce the winner of the Cubs For Cancer Jersey Design Contest.
After receiving over 30 entries, the Attack and Cancer Society are happy to announce that 10 year-old Sarah Cowan's jersey design has been chosen as the jersey that the Attack will wear on the team's Cubs For Cancer game night on Saturday, Nov. 25 against the Guelph Storm.
Sarah's design incorporates the Cubs For Cancer logo, slogan and the Canadian Cancer Society's childhood cancer colour scheme as well as the CCS' childhood cancer ribbon.
The winning design can be viewed at www.attackhockey.com
For her work, Sarah has won a pair of tickets to the Cubs For Cancer game, as well as a replica of her jersey.
Childhood cancer remains the most common disease-related cause of death – more than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and AIDS combined. It is second only to injury-related deaths among Canadian children. However, the Canadian Cancer Society is making progress, with the survival rate increasing to 83% from the 66% it was in 1965.
An estimated two-thirds of childhood cancer survivors will have at least one chronic or long-term side effect from their cancer treatment. It is more important than ever to continue to fund research and find more and better ways to treat childhood cancer.
Sarah's jersey design will be worn by the players and then auctioned off in a live auction following the Cubs For Cancer game, which will also feature a hair cutting event prior to the game in an effort to raise money for the initiative.
More information surrounding the Cubs For Cancer game night and related activities will be made available at a later date.
