Baycats Celebrate 4-Peat with Fans
Fans got meet with players and coaches of the 2017 IBL champs.
The Barrie Baycats celebrated their 4th straight Intercounty Baseball League championship with their fans.
Dozens were at the Barrie Sports Complex Friday night for a meet and greet with players, coaches, and management.
The Baycats became 2017 champions when they beat the Panthers in Kitchener Tuesday night to complete a 4-game sweep of the finals.
Baycats Catcher Kyle DeGrace was named 2017 IBL Playoff MVP.
Manager Angus Roy says it was surreal when he was part of the Baycats team that won the championship in 2005.
He says it never gets old when you build relationships with players throughout the season and win championships.
The Baycats went on to record a 41 & 3 record during the regular season and the playoffs (where they went 8 & 0).
They opened the season with a record-breaking 26 straight wins.
Roy says it would be hard to argue that this wasn't the best single-season performance in the team's history.
He says they didn't lose their first game until July 18 (vs. Toronto).
Roy says he felt they had the talent on the team to go after another championship.
But he admits he didn't think they would have the kind of season like they did this year.
