MPP Wants to Make Hwy 6 Safer

Regional | by Kevin Bernard

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker wants to meet with OPP and the MTO.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker thinks the penalty for racing could be greater than a simple fine and a licence suspension for a week.

Walker says anyone who is doing 50 kmh over the speed limit should have their car seized and licence taken away.

He also wonders what improvements could be done on highway 6 on the Bruce Peninsula in light of a horrific accident over the weekend.

Three people died in a head-on crash and Walker wants to meet with both OPP and Ministry of Transport representatives to look at that section of road.

That meeting is expected early in September.

The Conservative MPP says perhaps there are some changes that could be made to the highway, but he says a number of accidents over the last few years are connected to drivers who are simply in too much of a hurry.

Walker says even having a full 4 lane highway from Guelph to Tobermory wouldn't eliminate all the crashes that occur, pointing to the fact there are several collisions almost daily on the 400.

Meanwhile, a public Facebook group created this week is gaining followers, it's called "Lets Fix Highway 6" and raises concerns about safety on the road.
