Renovations at East Ridge Community School are finished and the new Owen Sound YMCA Early Learning Centre is ready to open.
The YMCA partnered with the Bluewater District School Board to create the new centre, located on the same site as the newly amalgamated elementary school set to open this fall.
Communications Lead for the project Ellen Alstein says by August 31st, students will be moved out of the current 25 year old Owen Sound YMCA Child Care location on 612 Second Avenue East.
Alstein says the new location is safer for kids, with pin pad controlled access to the daycare area.
It's also fully accessible and on a bus route.
Different age groups will get their own area in one of the four large rooms, each with their own kitchen and bathrooms, while they all have access to a central play area.
She says it's a beautiful space too with high ceilings and huge banks of windows that allow plenty of natural light.
Alstein points out the additional space has convenient features for parents as well. There is a designated are where parents can leave their stroller or car seat if they've designated another person to pick up their child.
The new centre is licensed for 78 children, which includes 30 toddlers (an increase of 15 from the former location) and 48 preschoolers (an increase of eight).
Alstein says the YMCA offers a Before and After School program at the location which is licensed for 52 junior and senior kindergarten students, and 60 children from Grade 1 and up.
A grand opening will be held later in the year.
