Huron Health Unit Promotes Water Over Sugary Drinks

Health unit offial promote "Water Does Wonders" campaign.

As the summer heat approaches, the Huron County Health Unit is reminding you to hydrate with water.

The "Water Does Wonders" campaign emphasizes the importance supporting healthy hydration when spending times outdoors.

Public Health Inspector Chris Boyes says this means avoiding sugary drinks, like sodas and energy drinks, which can further dehydrate you.

He points to research showing sugar-sweetened beverages are the largest source of sugar in kids’ diets.

When children are used to drinking water at a young age, they are more likely to drink water later in life.

The same advice goes for adults, but Boyes adds alcohol to the list of drinks not designed to replenish the body's water needs.
