Chi Cheemaun Festival This Weekend

Events include fireworks, a slo-pitch tournament cardboard boat races & a classic car show.


The 43rd Annual Chi-Cheemaun Festival begins today and will go all weekend.

The food booth at the ball diamond opens at 5pm this evening and will be available all weekend with the beer garden opening at 6pm.

There will be a fireworks show at 10:15pm at the harbour.

On Saturday from 7-10, a pancake breakfast is scheduled at the community centre. Proceeds will go to the local school breakfast program.

The J.P. Johnstone Slo-pitch tournament continues at 8am.

The Tobermory Library is having a book sale from 10-1.

A dog parade is scheduled for 10:30.

Children's events are planned from 10-3 with a bouncy house and a dunk tank.

Other things to see and perhaps eat, include hot dogs in the harbour as well as a classic car and antique boat show from 1-5pm and the local legion's Ladies Auxiliary will have a pie sale beginning 10am.

Cardboard boat races are expected to start at 3 in the afternoon.

A rib dinner and silent auction is set for 5-7pm at the community centre.

The event wraps up Sunday with the finals of the J.P. Johnstone Slo-pitch tournament.

A Chamber of Commerce representative says the champagne cruise has been cancelled this year.
