School Closing Ceremonies

Owen Sound | by Kevin Bernard

Four Owen Sound area schools will hold ceremonies today and tomorrow before closing.

The first of four ceremonies marking the end of classes at area schools that are being permanently closed this month, will be held today.

Dufferin Elementary in Owen Sound is the first to mark the occasion with a barbecue from 5pm until 6:30 with a tour at 6 and a closing assembly at 7pm.

Dufferin, Bayview Public, Sydenham Community, and Chesley District Community will all shut their doors for good this month.

Tomorrow, the other three schools will hold celebrations.

Closing ceremonies at Chesley, will be at 1:45pm in the afternoon.

Bayview is holding its spring carnival including a barbecue, from 5 till 7:30pm with the official closing at 6.
And Sydenham will have a talent show at 6pm tomorrow, with closing ceremonies at 7, and refreshments to follow.

The closures are the result of accommodation reviews in the Bluewater Board over the last year.

Students from Sydenham and Bayview will be consolidated into East Ridge which was OSCVI.

Dufferin students will be redistributed from their 128-year-old downtown campus to either Hillcrest or Keppel-Sarawak.

Chesley high school students will be scattered in four directions, to schools in Hanover, Port Elgin, Walkerton and Owen Sound, while the Agriculture Special High Skills Major program will remain in Chesley as a satellite program.
