Million dollar Soccer complex ready.

Brockton | by Robyn Garvey

Grand Opening in Brockton on Saturday morning.

It’s the Official Kick Off for the million dollar soccer field complex project in Walkerton.

At 11 am Saturday, a Grand Opening Ceremony will take place at Brockton’s Bruce Power Regional Soccer Park.

Mayor David Inglis encourages residents to come out and join in the celebration.

The 960 thousand dollar project has been a joint effort between the municipality of Brockton and the Keep the Ball Rolling Soccer Fundraising Committee.

Walkerton Football Club President Jeff Roberts who led the fundraising charge couldn't be happier.

He says it has been a nine year journey that has finally come to fruition.

Roberts credits the Brockton community for pulling together and supporting this cause.

In just two short years 455 thousand dollars has been raised towards the 600 thousand dollar fundraising goal.

Roberts is confident the remaining 145 thousand dollars will be raised soon enough.

Inglis says Brockton can take great pride in the new soccer field project which boasts 4 regulation size fields, underground irrigation and drainage.

He adds thanks to fundraising efforts and a nuclear waste grant, taxpayers have only had to put about 120 thousand dollars towards the 960 thousand dollar project.

Inglis is looking forward to a summer of soccer including large soccer tournaments.
