Kincardine Grade 12 student, Declan Mowle, is reaching for gold.
Mowle is off to the National Skills Competition after winning in both the regionals and provincials in small powered equipment and now he's off to the National competition in Winnipeg.
Bryan Derksen, Technological Studies Teacher at Kincardine District Secondary School, says Declan's skills just seem to come naturally to him, it's a part of who he is.
"There's mechanical aptitude bloodlines there, there's the interest, there's the high degree of focus and there's a high degree of intellectual function and it's coming to together to create the perfect storm," says Derksen.
Derksen says Declan has a certain determination and really immerses himself into his craft, making him exceptionally good at what he does.
Declan placed second at the Nationals last year as a Grade 11 student and is aiming for gold this year in the Outdoor Equipment and Power Sports Category.
The Skills Canada Nationals run from May 31st until June 3rd in Winnipeg, MB.
