Excitement is growing as Brockton awaits its newest members of the community.
Brockton and Area Refugee Team member Yvonne Carroll says a young family of seven is set to arrive anywhere from 1 to 3 months from now.
She says the family is originally from Syria but fled the country four years ago and has been on the road ever since, they are currently in Lebanon.
The parents are both in their 30s and the five children include: a 9 year old son, a 7 year old daughter, a 4 year old daughter, a 3 year old son, and a 4 month old daughter.
Even though the $40,000 in fundraising to bring the family to Canada has been achieved, Carroll says there is still much to be done.
She says they are in need of: household items, clothing, toys, furnishings as well as items like a crib and baby car seat. She says local gift cards and transportation assistance would also be greatly appreciated.
As such a special meeting is being held at the Walkerton Trinity Lutheran Church on May 3rd at 7pm, anyone interested in helping out is encouraged to attend.
Committee Member Len Kraemer adds that language is another major barrier and request anyone who could help translate to please come forward.
