Tonight, the Owen Sound Community Fund along with Canada 150 and Owen Sound 160 Celebration will hold a Special Night with Larisa Yurkiw and Jason Crone.
The family fun evening will be conducted from 5:30-8:30 pm at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
Hosted by the Owen Sound Community Fund and the Canada 150-Owen Sound 160 Celebration Committee, the event will honour the amazing achievements of Owen Sound Olympians, Larisa Yurkiw and Jason Crone, and will discuss the importance of sport in creating a sense of community belonging.
Yurkiw, as one of the world’s top downhill ski racers, competed in the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and the World Ski Racing Championships between 2009 and 2016, towards a career peak with 5 podium placements before retiring in 2016.
Jason Crone overcame all obstacles to win bronze at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and silver at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and also competed at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games. Jason was a high-level hockey and lacrosse player before he sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of 15.
These two inspiring athletes will be available to sign autographs and will have a conversation with MC Fred Wallace of Bayshore Broadcasting about the importance of community support in sport. Join us for family fun, community connections -- refreshments will be provided. This event is generously sponsored by Barry’s Construction, Owen Sound.
