CSPC Looks To Turn Farm Waste Into Sugar

Varna | by Peter Jackson

Cellulosic Sugar Producers' Co-operative to meet in Varna this week, looking for suppliers.

The Cellulosic Sugar Producers' Co-operative is looking to recruit members among Huron County corn and wheat producers, whose crop waste can be converted into sugar.

The CSPC will talk about how farmers could profit from the process at a meeting in Varna this Friday.

The process recovers under utilized corn stover and wheat straw.

Demonstrations using equipment to harvest the excess biomass were held on farms in Warwick and Bothwell in November, and the Co-operative is actively recruiting supplier members.

A processing plant is planned by the co-operative and Comet Biorefining, at a location to be announced.

The CSPC meeting will be held at Hill and Hill Farms on Mill Road in Varna, Friday from 1:30pm till 3pm.
