Applicants waiting for affordable housing in Bruce County grew slightly in 2016, compared to 2015.
Those applicants waiting for affordable housing in Bruce County grew slightly in 2016, compared to 2015.
Director of Social Services and Housing, Christine MacDonald told the County Housing Committee on March 2nd, 2017 that at the end of 2016, there were 365 applicants on the wait list.
The applicants are made up of 168 adults, 128 seniors and 69 families.
In the same time frame in 2015, that number stood at 306.
All are waiting for rent-geared-to-income housing.
MacDonald says the high wait list areas continue to be Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Brockton and South Bruce Peninsula.
She says the latest census figures show there has been an increase in population in Bruce County and some of them end up on the list waiting for affordable housing.
There were 163 applicants housed between January and December 2016.
MacDonald says they are continuing to work on their 10-year long term housing plan to address the issues.
She says each year they attempt to create new affordable units as well as renovating existing units.
