Home Building Up in Saugeen Shores
Saugeen Shores |
2016 saw an increase in residential development in Saugeen Shores.
If you thought there was more than usual residential development in Saugeen Shores in 2016, you're right.
Manager of Development Services Bart Toby, in an information report to Committee of the Whole (February 28th, 2017), says in total 344 building permits were issued in 2016.
That represents an approximate 20% increase over the last five-year average.
152 residential building permits were issued with 66 being new single detached dwellings; 30 semi-detached dwellings and 56 apartments.
Toby says they haven't seen that kind of development construction since 2008.
He says the new builds are likely in anticipation of the Bruce Power refurbishment project and the demands from people for smaller units.
The residential construction value is 40.7-million-dollars.
In addition, 25 commercial construction building permits were issued in 2016, representing 2.4-million-dollars in value.
Toby doesn't see it slowing down in 2017.
He says in January and February alone, they have 8-million-dollars worth of construction on the books in what is traditionally the quietest time of year for development.
