The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks have a 2-games-to-one lead in their best of 7 WOAA semi-final series with the Clinton Radars.
The second win looked like a no-brainer by the end of the second period but Clinton came back in the 3rd, but came up short, losing 5-4.
Curtis Johnston led the way for the Winterhawks with two goals, including the winner, while singles went to Jeff MacDermid; Brent MacDermid and Andy Mitchell.
The Hawks were ahead 5-1 at one point in the game.
Coach Jim Grieve says the team seemed to sit back in 3rd period on the strength of four easy goals in the second.
Grieve suspects the team may have been looking ahead to game four in the series on Saturday night in Clinton.
Grieve says the guys will have to be ready to play 60-minutes of hockey in Clinton Saturday night.
Gametime is 8:30pm.
The next home game for the Winterhawks is next Friday, March 10th at the Plex at 8:30pm.
Elsewhere Friday night, the Petrolia Squires beat the Mapleton Minto 81's 7-4 and have a 2-1 series lead in their best of seven semi-final.
Before Friday's game the Hawks goaltending tandem of Jeff Flagler, Blake Sinclair, Richard Harris and Matt Tutin shared a trophy from the WOAA for Best Goals Against average in the regular season.
The group had the lowest goals against average in 24-years that the award has been handed out at 2.10.
