Former Bluewater Teacher sentenced

The former high school football coach is given 6 months, but is appealing.

A former Bluewater school board teacher has been sentenced to 6 months in jail on one count of sexual exploitation.

50 year old Matthew Dale Palmer of Keppel township was found guilty last fall,  following a 2 week trial in Cobourg and he was sentenced on Feb. 22nd.

Palmer was charged in August of 2014 in connection with incidents between 1996 and 1999 in the Cobourg area.

Northumberland OPP say he had been living in the Port Hope area and was involved in a volunteer position.

Matthew Dale Palmer used to be a football coach at Grey Highlands Secondary school in Flesherton.

Along with the jail sentence, he was given 18 months probation, he will be on the sex offender registry for 10 years and must submit a DNA sample.

Palmer is appealing the sentence and is currently out on bail.
