A Buck A Year for Chantry Island

Southampton | by John Divinski

It seems a dollar really can go a long way after all.

You hear it all the time.
A dollar doesn't go very far in today's day and age but such is not the case when you can lease Chantry Island.
Saugeen Shores council has approved a new five-year lease agreement from the federal Ministry of Fisheries and Oceans.
The cost? A loonie a year.
The Marine Heritage Society is also the benefactor of the deal since they sublease parts of Chantry Island from the town.
The Society manages and maintains the island as it pertains to the Lighthouse Quarters; the Lighthouse, privy and docking area.
Sometimes a dollar really does go a long way.
