Goderich Fiyers' head coach David Errington has said all season long that his team puts in the effort to win, but isn't rewarded.
A good example of that happened at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine Saturday, where Goderich skated to a 2-2 tie with the Bulldogs in Provincial Junior Hockey League play.
The Flyers were four seconds away from victory when forward Jesse Gunn scored for Kincardine at 19:56 of the third period to force overtime.
Kincardine had pulled goaltender Malcolm Young for the extra attacker at 18:36 of the final frame.
Jordan Van Haelemeesch scored unassisted to put the Bulldogs in the lead in the first period, and the score stayed 1-0 Kincardine until Tyler Stacy and Ryan Stulp set up Flyers' captain Tyler McCracken to tie the game at 5:14 of the third period.
Goderich went ahead 2-1 on Jack Francis' goal from Morgan Benneweis with 7:04 left in regulation time.
Flyers' goaltender Brandon Bean faced 28 Kincardine shots, while Young made 22 saves.
Fourth-place Kincardine has 33 points with one game remaining in the 36-game PJHL Pollock Division season, with Mount Forest three points behind and with three games in hand on the Bulldogs.
The Patriots Saturday were led by Jesse Hewak with two goals in a 5-1 win at Wingham, and Tyler Pauli led Mitchell with a pair in Mitchell's 7-3 victory at Hanover.
In the PJHL Yeck Division Saturday, Exeter netminder Trevor Fleming made 27 saves as the Hawks blanked Aylmer 3-0 to move into second place.
The Hawks are two points up on the Spitfires, who have two games in hand on Exeter.
