Federal Funding for New Georgian Building
$10.8 Million is going towards new innovation and research centre at Barrie campus.
Georgian College in Barrie is getting a funding boost for their new $30-million Advanced Technology, Innovation and Research Centre.
The federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Navdeep Bains was in Barrie on Monday to announced $10.8 million in funding through the Government of Canada's Post Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund.
The funding is on top of the $1.8 Million from the provincial government, $5 Million from the County of Simcoe, and $5 million from the City of Barrie.
The three-storey building will provide study and learning space for students enrolled in new diploma and degree programs.
The new building coincides with the new electrical engineering degree program that is being offer as a joint program by Georgian and Lakehead University in Orillia.
The building will open for use by the fall of 2018.
