Huron Health Unit Recommends Radon Testing

Huron County | by Fadi Didi

After cold forces us indoors, Health Unit recommends testing for cancer-causing radon.

Now that mother nature has forced us indoors, the Huron County Health Unit is recommending residents test for radon gas.

Radon is an odourless, colourless radioactive gas, and is the second-leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Public Health Inspector Chris Boyes says the gas comes from decaying uranium in soil.

Boyes tells The Beach News home testing kits can be purchased at home renovation stores, or online.

Radon testing professionals can also be hired.

Boyes says smokers with higher levels of exposure to radon are at much greater risk of developing lung cancer.

If you want to learn more about radon testing, information can be found through the Huron County Health Unit, and Health Canada.
