Hawks Beat Elora in WOAA

Port Elgin | by John Divinski

Winterhawks blow out Elora 11-0 in WOAA.

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks got their first win of the WOAA senior men's hockey season, and it was a blow-out.

The Hawks blanked the Elora Rocks, 11-0, with goalie Jeff Flager picking up the shutout, stopping all 23-shots.

Hawks coach Jim Grieve says it was still a tough game to play because Elora came with only 9-players and two goalies and they just ran out of gas.

Playing in his first game, after being signed by the Hawks earlier this week, was Theo Peckham, a former NHL'er who played with the Edmonton Oilers.

Grieve says Peckham brings a sense of professionalism to the squad and makes the other players accountable for their play.

Peckham had some crushing checks during the game and picked up an assist.

Alex Penner and Brent Macdermid picked up hat tricks in the win.

The Winterhawks play Saturday night in Shelburne against the Muskies.
