Students from the now-closed Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute are beginning the 2016-2017 school year at the new Owen Sound District Secondary School.

The re-branded West Hill location will accommodate all high schoolers from the City.

Co-Principals of the new OSDSS, Lucy Hilts and Matt Pickett, say they're keen to make the transition to the new school seamless for former OSCVI students.

However, Pickett concedes that it'll be a "big change."

He tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the facility has four new portable buildings and the parking lot has been resurfaced and expanded.

OSDSS is still without a mascot, but the school's colours are purple, black and grey.

Pickett says the Bluewater District School Board is eager to being the school year, now that the accommodation review process is complete.

The OSCVI will now be renovated to become a junior kindergarten to Grade-8 school, beginning in September of 2017 -- and including the area's French Immersion students.
