29th annual Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular

Strong winds limited the number of fish entered to 82 yesterday

Salmon Division- Tony Harnack of Annan leads at 25.24 pounds

Trout Division- Brian McKibbon is first at 18.76 pounds.


The Salmon Spectacular is a radio presentation by the outstanding agents of Remax Grey-Bruce and by Christine and Steve Sgro, proud owners of your local McDonald's Restaurant

The derby concludes on Sunday.

Durham Dodgers 7  Wiarton Nationals 2

Ty Sebastian went the distance for the win giving up 3 hits and striking out 13.

Sebastian and Dean Nixon both had 3 rbi for the Dodgers

Kevin Lang had 2 singles and a double as Durham finished the regular season 15 & 5.



Owen Sound Junior Selects 9 Saugeen Thunderbirds 2

The Junior Selects finish 7 & 13 on the year while the Thunderbirds went 4 & 16


The annual League Tournament is next weekend at Chepstow.

Johnson Guilty

Former Windsor Spitfire Ben Johnson has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the washroom of a Windsor,  bar in March 2013.

Justice Kirk Munroe delivered the guilty verdict against the 22-year-old Johnson in a nearly three-hour ruling.

Johnson played 3 OHL seasons in Windsor and was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 2012

The Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group has announced there will be NO Late registration fee this year.

However, OSMHG has implemented a cutoff date for registration which is Monday.


The Hanover Tennis and Pickleball Club Grand Opening of the Courts will be Tuesday (Rain date – Thursday, September 8, 2016)

5pm Social Time
5:30pm Official Ceremonies
6:00pm Burgers, hot dogs and social time
6:30pm Introduction to Pickleball – lessons for those new to the game
7pm-9pm Regular Pickleball play



The Wiarton Rock is having a Training/Team Tryout at the 'Julie McArthur Rec Centre' in Owen Sound on Tuesday from 3-5pm and next Friday, September 9th from 2-4pm.

The first Shallow Lake Crushers Senior Hockey team tryout will be at the Julie McArthur Regional Rec Center in Owen Sound on Thursday before moving to Shallow Lake on September 12th.
