Court Date for OPP Officer in Midland

Midland | by Mariane McLeod

Cop is father of confessed sex offender

A court appearance today for a police officer whose son is serving time for abusing children.

Constable Mark Lund will be in court in Midland, facing a charge of Obstruction of Justice.

His son, Shayne, is in the midst of a process to decide whether he should be declared a long-term sex offender. He pleaded guilty last year to charges involving child pornography and sex abuse. Several children were assaulted by the younger Lund, with the help of two young women who were babysitters in the Midland and Orillia area.

Constable Mark Lund has been an OPP officer for 27 years and was charged after an investigation by the OPP Professional Standards Bureau. Police are not detailing why he has been charged, but will only say that at the time of the alleged incident, Lund was off-duty.
