Annual Raise A Little Health Returns

Goderich | by Fadi Didi

3rd annual charity hockey game looks to surpass $100k raised for local healthcare.

A charity hockey matchup in Goderich will reach an important milestone.

The 3rd annual "Raise A Little Health" event running Thursday is expected to pass the $100 thousand mark for dollars raised in support of local health initiatives.

Huron-Bruce Conservative MP Ben Lobb organizes the event, which supports the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital, Goderich YMCA Strong Kids Program, and the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health, in Seaforth.

The lineup for the event also boasts an all-star lineup of NHLers.

Lobb tells us Ryan and Cal O'Reilly of the Buffalo Sabres will lead one team, while Seaforth native and former Toronto Maple Leaf Boyd Devereaux will captain the opposing squad.

Former Leaf, Senator, and Sabre Dave McLlwain will also lace up for the charity event.

After the game, Lobb says the hockey stars will sign autographs.

Former President of the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health, Gwen Devereaux, says the fundraiser is critical to maintaining operations at the Seaforth organization.

Devereaux says the money raised allows Gateway to employ local students, who provide regional health research, and allow the region to thrive.

The "Raise A Little Health" charity hockey match runs Thursday at 6:45 p.m., with doors opening at 6:00 p.m. at the Goderich YMCA.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children.
