The Shallow Lake Crushers and the entire WOAA League will see some interesting changes in scheduling and in the playoffs this upcoming season.
In a recent WOAA Managers meeting the teams voted on a new system that will see the North and South divisions cross over and play some games against each other in the regular season.
The schedule will be an unbalanced schedule, meaning that not all teams will play each other. For example the Crushers will play all of their regular North Division rivals plus they will play a home and home with both Huron East and Clinton to round out this year’s regular season schedule at 20 games.
The biggest change will come in the standings and the playoffs which eliminates the North and South Division in favor of just one division ranked from 1 to 14. The top 8 teams of 1 thru 8 will playoff for the AA title and the remaining 6 teams will play for A title.
The new format should bring the 2 best teams in the league to the AA final and could potentially place 2 teams from the North in the final or 2 teams from the south.
The league is hoping this new format will give the fans a chance to see some new teams they haven’t seen before. The league has also opted to join Point Streak which should mean live up to date scoring of all games.
The Crushers kick off this year’s tryouts at the Rec Center in Owen Sound on September 8th before moving to Shallow Lake on September 12th.
