Baycats Victorious Over Royals

Midhurst | by Ken Hashizume

Barrie scores 5 in 3rd to beat Guelph.

One inning was all the Barrie Baycats needed to beat the Guelph Royals.

Kevin Atkinson led the way with a pair of hits, drove in 3, and scored twice in the Baycats' 8-5 victory in Intercounty League action on Thursday night.

Five of the runs came in a bat-around 3rd inning where Atkinson had an R-B-I single sandwiched between an R-B-I double by Ryan Spataro and a 2-run double by Jeremy Walker.

Walker also finished with 3 R-B-Is.

Guelph did chip away at Barrie's lead with a run in 4th and 5th innings and getting 3 in the ninth before Jaspreet Shergill nailed down the final out.

Nate Arruda went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 9 hits, walking 3, and striking out 4 for the win.

Alberto Rodriguez pitched 6 innings surrendering 6 runs on 6 hits, walking 3, and striking out 7 for the Royals in the loss.

The next game for the Baycats is Saturday night when they welcome the Hamilton Cardinals.
