Jillian Bjelan says the value of volunteering was passed down by her parents.
The 19 year old Bluewater resident received the Ontario Medal For Young Volunteers, the highest honour for volunteers given by the province.
The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, presented the medals at a ceremony held at Queen's Park, joined by Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade.
Since entering high school, Bjelan worked more than 1,000 volunteer hours to local events and activities.
She has served as acting stage manager for the Blyth Festival's 14/19 initiative, and currently serves as the Hensall Fair Ambassador.
