Shield Win North Final Opener
Panelin-Borg with goal, 3 assists as South Muskoka beat Almaguin in Game 1.
Early goals helping the South Muskoka Shield take Game 1 of their GMHL North Division final.
Mark Spong and Juray Kamenicky each had two goals for the Shield in a 7-3 victory over the Almaguin Spartans on Friday in the opener of the best-of-seven.
It was all South Muskoka in the first 40 minutes grabbing a 4-0 first period lead and went up 5-0 after two.
Down 6-0 in the 3rd, Almaguin responded with two quick goals but were not able to sustain any momentum.
Alfred Panelin-Borg (1 goal, 3 assists) had a four-point night for the Shield.
Ludvig Nilsson had a goal and an assist for the Spartans.
Game 2 of this series goes Saturday night in South River.
In the other Divisional opener in the GMHL Friday night, the Kingsville Kings beat the Halton Ravens 9-2.
The other division series opens Saturday as the Alliston Coyotes visit the Tottenham Steam at 7:30 PM.
