The Goderich-Huron YMCA is recognizing strong youth leaders along Ontario's West Coast.

Applications are now being accepted for the Celebration of Youth scholarships, presented by the region's "Y" branches.

The "Y"'s Community Engagement Coordinator Jennifer Evans says scholarships worth between $500 and $1,000 are available to nine college-bound students between the ages of 17 and 19.

Evans tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the awards are geared towards students who may not have the highest grades at school, but contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.

Categories for scholarships include health and awareness, personal achievement, philathropy, social good, volunteerism, and the "Y"'s youth leadership award.

Applicants have until March 8th to register, and a link to the application can be found here.
