Connor Roberts to Drop Puck on Saturday
After being snowed out on Wednesday, Feb. 24, the Owen Sound Attack will look to kick off of a weekend of games by clinching a playoff spot on Friday, Feb. 26 in Mississauga.
Heading south on Highway 10, the Attack will travel to the Hersey Centre for their 2nd and final meeting of the year with the Steelheads in a 7:30pm puck drop.
The game will provide Owen Sound the chance to cement their place in the postseason, as the Attack need just two more points to set an unattainable mark for the Western Conference's 9th place Flint Firebirds.
Currently sitting at 26-20-7-3, good for 62 points and 6th in the Western Conference, Owen Sound is embroiled in a battle for playoff positioning with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds who also have 62 points. The Hounds are in 7th place by virtue of having played one more game than the Attack so far in the 2015-16 season.
Mississauga will enter Friday's contest fresh off of a 5-4 overtime victory over the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday night. The win, Mississauga's 2nd in as many games, separated the Steelheads from the Niagara IceDogs and Peterborough Petes in the Eastern Conference's race for 4th place.
The Steelheads have now moved to 30-25-1-3 on the season, and with 64 points they have a 2 point cushion on the IceDogs and Petes.
Friday night's game will also mark a return to the Hershey Centre for former Steelhead captain, Bryson Cianfrone.
The Attack overager captained Mississauga during the 2014-15 season before being acquired in a trade for goaltender Jack Flinn just prior to the 2015-16 campaign.
Cianfrone leads Owen Sound in scoring on the year, having picked up 15 goals and 30 assists in 49 games, which leaves him just 7 points shy of the career best he set last year with the Steelheads.
Fans can catch Friday's action live by listening to Kia of Owen Sound Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio on 560 CFOS.
Following the contest in Mississauga, the Attack return home to host the Sarnia Sting in a 7:30pm game. Owen Sound native and Grey Bruce Highlander Minor Midget AAA forward will be on hand to accept recognition from City of Owen Sound Mayor Ian Boddy prior to Saturday’s game. Roberts just returned from Lillehammer where he represented Canada at the World Youth Olympic Games, winning a Silver Medal. Connor is also a graduate of Owen Sound Minor Hockey.
Sarnia, who currently sits in 2nd place in the Western Conference, will play host to the Barrie Colts on Friday night before making the trek to the Bayshore for the 4th and final meeting between the two teams on the year.
The Attack have a 1-1-1-0 record against Sarnia this year, with all three games having been decided by one goal. The last meeting between the squads saw the Attack defeat the Sting in a thrilling 5-4 contest in Sarnia back on Jan. 8.
Acquired at the trade deadline in a blockbuster deal, Travis Konecny leads the Sting with 23 goals and 84 points on the season.
Owen Sound will then wrap up their weekend of games with a rare Monday contest when they play host to the Niagara IceDogs in a 7:00pm tilt. That game is a rescheduled affair after the two teams had their meeting on Wednesday night snowed out.
Fans can purchase tickets for the games against Sarnia and Niagara at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office, by calling 519-371-7452, or by visiting www.attackhockey.com. Fans are also reminded that tickets dated Wednesday, Feb. 24 will be honoured for Monday night's rescheduled game against Niagara.
