Wasaga Beach | by Catherine Thompson

Staff to review idea of ward system for the 2018 municipal election.

Wasaga Beach council isn't saying the next election with go to a ward system, but councillors are willing to explore the idea.

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, councillors voted 4-3 to review the option and to have staff report back on the best ways to consult the public and the costs associated with those ideas.

Councillors decided to ask for public opinion before discussing the possibility of spending 35 thousand dollars to hire a consultant to review the options for the 2018 municipal election including how the town could be divided into wards.

Councillor Bill Stockwell told his colleagues at the table that he wants to see how the public feels first, but he does like the idea of a ward system.

He adds he feels the best way to get opinion from residents is by holding a public meeting.

There is no word yet on when the staff report will come back for consideration by the councillors.
