Hawk's Nest Coming to the Region

Regional | by Claire McCormack

A new business contest called 'Hawk's Nest' is coming to Grey and Bruce.

There's a new start-up business contest in the region.

'Hawk's Nest' is modeled after the popular contest television show Dragon's Den which features entrepreneurs pitching start-up business ideas to investors.

For its first year, contestants from Grey, Bruce, Wellington North or Minto can compete for a shot at a $25,000 investment in their start-up business.

The Hawk's Nest contest is being organized by the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation.

SEDC General Manager Rose Austin says workshops are currently being offered to interested entrepreneurs to show them how to make a business pitch and how to create a proper application.

Austin says the free day-long training sessions are quickly filling up and take 25 people per session.

Austin says the five Hawks have been lined up and each will invest $5,000 in the winning start-up business.

The final contest takes place on June 21st, and will be televised.

The next workshops will be held on the following dates:

Wednesday, February 3rd, at the Walkerton Golf and Country Club
Friday February 5th a the Kincardine Lake Huron Learning Centre
Tuesday February 9th at the Owen Sound Day's Inn

The deadline for applications to the contest has been extended to March 11th, 2016.

Austin says interested people can contact the Saugeen Economic Development Corporation office  at 1-877-335-7332 or the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation at 1-888-832-2232
