Theft of Sunglasses Leads to Assault Police

Barrie | by Ian MacLennan

A 15 year old boy and a 17 year old girl face charges.

Shades of trouble for a pair of teens after the theft of sunglasses from a Bayfield Street convenience store.

Barrie police were called out to a plaza on Monday afternoon where they viewed video and arrested a 15 year old boy still in possession of the sunglasses.

He was charged and held for a bail hearing due to previous outstanding charges for the same offences.

During the investigation,  police say a 17 year old female got lippy and was told to stop interfering,  that set her off and she allegedly spit on the windshield of a police cruiser, kicked an officer in the knee and spit in his face.

She's been charged with assault police and mischief.

The officer went to hospital for minor treatment.
