Maple Leafs Get on the Board

Midhurst | by Ken Hashizume

Waltenbury homers against former team as Toronto cuts Barrie's lead in the series.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the board in the Intercounty Baseball semifinals thanks to some early offence from a former Baycat.

Jon Waltenbury's 3-run home run in the 1st inning was all that the Maple Leafs needed as they went on to win 4-2 over Barrie on Saturday.

Waltenbury finished with a pair of walks and 2 runs scored.

Toronto also got some stellar pitching from Justin Cicatello who threw a complete game 5-hitter, walking one and striking out 4.

Brett Lawson recovered from that rough 1st inning going 8 innings surrendering 4 runs on 4 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3.

At one point, Lawson retired 15 straight.

Branfy Arias went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Baycats.

Barrie still leads the best-of-7 semi final series 2-1.

Game 4 goes Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
