A new conductor has been named for the Georgian Bay Symphony.
Francois Koh has accepted the offer to become the Symphony’s Music Director and Conductor for the 2015-2016 Season.
Koh is a native of Seoul, Korea where he majored in classical guitar.
He studied conducting in France and holds a Master’s Degree in Orchestra Conducting from McGill University in Montreal.
There he served as the assistant conductor of the McGill Symphony Orchestra, Opera McGill and McGill Wind Symphony.
Presently, he, is working towards his Doctorate in conducting at the University of Toronto.
Recently, he worked as the assistant conductor of the Kawartha Youth Orchestra and the Peterborough Symphony Orchestra.
GBS Board Chair, Sandy Stevenson says there were 4 excellent candidates for the position.
Retiring Music Director John Barnum will conduct his final concert with the Symphony on Saturday May 9th at the OSCVI.
He and Francois Koh have already begun work on the 2015-16 Season as the transition period has begun.
